Civil status documents

Birth, marriage and death records, family status and residence certificates, court judgments: these are the documents that pass through the civil status offices of Italian town halls, the Prefetture and the consulates. When they were issued abroad they have to be filed in Italian, with the apostille or legalisation on the original.

A sworn translation costs 30 € per page and arrives as a signed and stamped PDF by email in 24 to 48 working hours: the quantity to enter in the order is the number of pages of the document. A paper copy by post is an option.

One warning that saves money: for civil status records issued in a European Union country there is the multilingual standard form provided by EU Regulation 2016/1191, which in many cases removes both the legalisation and the translation. Ask for it at the authority that issues the record before you order.
